Help Decode Door Tag

I see this forum has very knowledgeable individuals and thought that someone would be able to help me decode my car's door tag.

Body: 54A

Color: 6

Trim: 5U

Date: 16E

D.S.O. (what does this stand for?): 51

Axle: 8

Trans: U

My car is a 1967 Galaxie 500 4 door.

Door tag:

Car:

The car is turning 50 this next year (2017) so I am curious to figure out the specific build date.

Happy new year!

Re: Help Decode Door Tag

I couldn't figure out half of this. Hopefully someone else can!

7 = 1967

Body: 54A = 4 dr. Sedan

Color: 6 = Must be a special or limited color. Like Springtime Yellow in '64 Usually it's letters

Trim: 5U = Couldn't find this either

Tahoe Turquoise (medium turquoise metallic)

Date: 16E = May 16, 1967

D.S.O. (what does this stand for?): 51 = Denver, Colorado and East Wyoming. DSO= District Sales Office. Where the car went after assembly or who ordered it. I believe. Mine was built in los angeles and the dso was Seattle, from there it went to a portland dealership. So i am thinking it's in regions.

Axle: 8 = 3.89:1 non-locking

Trans: U = This is a number usually

Color: 6 = Light Beige

If you order a Marti Report, you can get the exact date of when the car was scheduled for build, the actual build date, when sold, etc.

Below is a copy of mine.

I got one of those myself. Very worth the money for the cheap level of data services performed. I got a data sticker for my door jam since my car was a 1970. Still thinking about getting a metal plate made even though they didn't use them for my year. I got the cheapest level and it answered several questions about my car I didn't know since my vin is covered up by the dash pad. I received a copy of the old title to the car when I bought it.

Re: Help Decode Door Tag

At some point in my cars life, the drivers side door was replaced. When I bought it, it didn't an original data plate, only a homemade one affixed to the door. Using the info from the VIN below the cowl, I was able to purchase the deluxe Marti report as well as the metal data plate and door rivets. Wasn't inexpensive in my case, but still worth the money in my opinion.

Below is a pic of the door tag that was on my car. An 'A' for effort I guess.

On a side note, it's interesting that both your car and mine were built at the same plant.

Re: Help Decode Door Tag

Well that surely helps! I don't have anything not '64 related really.
