352 Vibration

I noticed that my 352 was having a harmonic vibration at certain RPMs so I did a full tune up (points, condenser, plugs, wires, cap, rotor and set the timing and dwell to factory specs). The vibration is better but not eliminated. The engine still vibrates a little more than I think it should. I Googled about the 352 Ford engine and I see a few sites have mention of excessive vibration out of these engines. Is that really the case? Are these engines just prone to vibration? Anyone else have problems with vibration or notice excessive vibration out of a 352?

Re: 352 Vibration

I wouldn't think it's the engine causing a vibration. More than likely it's somewhere in the drive line. Start at the driveshaft and associated bearings, then move onto the wheels and tires. Is it at a particular speed or engine RPM? Go from there.

Love new stuff, especially when it's old!

Re: 352 Vibration

Not engine related but I once had vibration around 60 mph. Its gone now but I don't know if it was cured by an adjustable panhard bar, directional front tires on backwards, two new tires or all wheel balanced, because I did them at the same time. I secretly think it was replacing the old tires with new, particularly since they were slightly different sizes.

Re: 352 Vibration

do a compression check to make sure all cylinders have equal compression.

Re: 352 Vibration

have someone ride with you and climb around to localize the vibration. Its the cheapest solution mentioned here.
