Hello again, FordMuscleForums,
So the VIN is located "in the inner fender, under the hood inside the notch in the top of the left hand fender" on my '67 Galaxie according to Marti Auto. This is confusing and I still don't understand where it is located. Do I have to remove the fender to see it? My only concern with doing that is lining everything back up properly when reinstalling.
Is there any way to see the VIN under the fender without removing the fender? Can I use a small mirror or something?
I can speak for the 1966 and 1968 and by some degree of assuredness the '67. At the least there are 3 definite legal placards (welded in) for the VIN. There is the warranty tag on the door, but it most definitely says not for titling or registration only because doors can be swapped.
The main easy tag to see is on the passenger side engine compartment above either the heater plenum (no factory air con) or HVAC plenum (factory air con). The other two are on the cowl sides and you have to remove the outer wings/fenders to see them.
By 1968 (not sure of '67) but it was also in the windscreen on the passenger side.
The different year Service manuals will indicate where the easiest legal tag to see is.
But since the proof is in the pudding here's pics of the '66 and '68 tags.
The next three pics are of a 1966 showing both side cowls and engine bay cowl tag.
The next 4 pics are of a '68
Hope that helps and clears things up a bit.
