Re: 62 Horn Ring cracked..

I talked to a friend who is a '62 Galaxie expert, and he says - as you've found out - that the '62 XL horn ring is weak and particularly prone to cracking there. JB Weld is NOT recommended for fixing. There are specialists around who can weld pot metal. Since Germany has such a high reputation for technical and mechanical excellence, and so many skilled craftsmen, perhaps you can find someone engaged in old car restoration who can do the job. Otherwise, I'm afraid you'll just have to get lucky finding one on the net. Sorry!

Re: 62 Horn Ring cracked..

Thanks for reply - but it is not so easy as it seems. Even Companys donīt take Orders from Private Persons. Have some Questions sent to Companies in Germany. No answers till this time....

If I would repair this Ring - Have I to solder or Weld? Why does JB Weld - Strongest Adhesive to get - not fit this Crack and stable the Ring?

What would you do?

Re: 62 Horn Ring cracked..

I assume you only want to fit a correct original equipment part? How big of a hurry are you in? If you can't get any cooperation in Germany, perhaps you can find someone who can make the repair for you in the UK. I googled "car pot metal repair welding service" and got several possibilities to explore, including ways for you to fix it yourself. You might even try e-mailing Jay Leno at his Big Dog Garage to see if he has a suggestion as his mechanics seem to be able to fix or make unobtainable parts. Otherwise, I'm afraid it would be a regular search of the net. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Re: 62 Horn Ring cracked..

Oh.... thank you for further help. Will try google with the Search String you gave me. Oh no itīs not urgent cause meantime had another Hand on same Horn Ring for a 62 Ford. Same but for Mercury.....Same Construction....Just for $50 Dollar excl. Postage.

Hope it will arrive in good shape without Crack....Hopefully.....!!!

So try the Adhesive JB Weld in the Meantime.....Donīt want to spend too much money in this Parts. Function is all. All three Horn Ring Arms should work in correct kind....

Do not know if rechroming makes sense - just want a Car with Life Marks....
