1963 1/2 Galaxie 500 289 c.i. engine colors

Help I need your savvy and experience. I've got a 1963 1/2 Ford Galaxie 500 w/19,500 actual miles my problem is the last owner painted the breather and rocker arm covers with aqua (teal) powder coat, it some what matches the car (aqua color) BUT its not the "correct color" I'm sure. I need to know the correct color for the 289 c.i. breather and rocker arm covers. In my show travels it seems there is a different color for different size engines 260,289,390, and such. Its been difficult to find this info hope some out there can help.

Thanks in advance; Scotty

I'm thinking gold, but I'd e-mail Greg Cook. He's forgotten more about Galaxies than I'll ever know...

I think I've even seen them painted white too. However on the air cleaner the snorkel is black and the very top lid is black as well I beleive.

Thanks for the help as you all see the colors can be confuseing, Ford sure picked some ugly colors. On an Aqua (teal) colored car the red or bright orange really look bad. I know the gold goes with the 390's and the blue goes with the 352's but the poor 289 is the step-child who knows. Thanks again gang.

No offesnse, but why does it matter? If you are going to paint the engine, why not paint it whatever color you want. You said yourself, "Ford picked some ugly colors". If it needs to be painted, isn't this your chance to paint it anyway you want?
I can understand why some people like "all original", but color is the one choice that everyone should make for themselves. Color is the biggest form of self expression when building a cool car. Do something different, make it your own.
If a car is already mint, i wouldn't F with it, but if it needs paint anyway....

Again, no offense. To each his own. I'm just curious.

63fstbk brings up a good point there. Take my Coronet (yes I'm pulling my Mopar into this) for example... the 413 that I'm putting in it was originally a turqoise color. Now imagine a turqoise engine sitting in my yellow engine bay. Talk about sick! I'm still not sure what color I'm going to paint it.

I say, unless you're doing a full restoration of this car to original specs I say just paint it whatever color you think would look best.

Thanks for all the support and info and if it was up to me I'd leave the breather and valve covers teal to match the paint on the car. However the judges at shows say the color is incorrect. I show the car in survivor or original classes if there available, so all little things matter. For just crusin' the color really doesn't matter. I showed my car (1963 1/2 Galaxie 500) this past weekend at
Indy's 44th Annual World of Wheels show and
the judges comented on the color but didn't count points off, I was placed in the '58-'67 Restored Class with cars fully restored so it didn't really matter, no survivor class for this show, I still had alot of fun and folks really liked my unmolested original old Ford.

Thanks again Folks!!!!!

My father in law had a '63 Galaxie(not a 500)with the 289. It had creamy white valve covers and air cleaner, don't remember if the snorkle was black or not. I believe the 260s had the reddish-orange valve covers and air cleaner.

DUUUUHHH, Just remembered I have Bob Mannels Small Block Engine reference book(great I might add). It lists the '63 Galaxie valve covers and air cleaner were ivory. He states a good match is the '62/'63 "Corinthain White" but does not mention the color of the snorkle. He does mention the '64s were red and some California air cleaners had the black snorkle.
