I gotta putta brake controller on my new truck for the car trailer brakes.

What style controller is better to have a "inertia based" or a "time based"?

I had a "time based" on my old dually that seemed to work good but,I wanted to do some asking around to see if the "inertia based" ones would be any better?

The first one I had was a Draw-Tite time delay type, and it worked OK. The main thing I didn't like about it was the sensitivity would drift over time - I'd have to keep re-adjusting it. I have a Tekonsha Prodigy now (inertia), and I really like it. No more fiddling with adjustments, and no more grabbing trailer brakes. Very smooth. You just have to be sure that your connections, and grounds are good, because it does checking, and expects everything to be good and secure, or you get error messages on the display.

We have the inerta controllers on our trucks. To put it bluntly, they suck. A buddy of mine has a controller from the early 80s, and you need to hook it to the brake system of the truck so that it can sense how hard you are using the brakes. A little more involved in istalling it, but it was real smooth, I wish I could find one of those units, or somehting like it, cause in my opinion, that is the way to go.

I just got done installing the Prodigy!

About 30 minutes using the factory trailer brake harness with the kit!

I tried it out with the empty car trailer a little and it works pretty slick.
