Sun Dwell Tachometer Hook Up

I picked up a used Sun Dwell Tachometer to use when tuning my idle and advance. But I don't know how to hook it up. Its got a orange (maybe faded red) and a black clip. Where do I hook these up to check the RPM? I don't care about dwell, I rip points off tout suite. Thanks.

I think the red goes to the positive on the coil to a ground.

Red (orange) to "neg" side (dist side) of coil, black to ground.
