Found: 1970 Mach 1 428 Cobra Jet w/Ram Air
Picture this...Your driving on some random back country road to take the "scenic route" with your wife on the way to grab some groceries. Your friend that knows nothing about classic mustangs tipped you off about what he thought looked like a mustang out in field. He couldn't really tell you what it was, but that it looked cool. So, you think, I might as well check it out while on the way to go shopping--it will make a good drive with your wife anyhow(she doesn't mind tagging along when trying to find a classic car). You find the field and the car he was talking about. Before you even get with in a hundred feet off it, you know its got to be a Mach 1, '69 or '70 year. As you get close, you notice cobra emblems on the front quarter panels behind the wheel wheels and on the rear of the car. You don't get too excited because you know that it is somewhat common for someone to buy emblems and just stick them on. So, you walk around to look at the dash vin number instantly scanning to the engine code where it has "R". So you are getting excited. You open the driver side door, and sure enough, the data plate tag matches the dash vin number. Now, you are exited. You then decide to pop the hood--which is a ram air hood--and...the engine compartment is empty. No engine, not trans. But, you make a final check at the vin number above the wheel well that is stamped into the metal in the engine compartment, and it matches as well.
So, you do have a good find, but no engine or trans. The body is in better shape than most, but not great. The interior isn't all that bad. It will need to be redone, but you've seen far worse. You notice it used to be a manual tranny. It has the orginal wheel rims. The glass is in good shape. And although it looked like someone tried to do some bondo work on one of the panels, it doesn't have too bad of rust.
The question is...how much do you offer the owner for a 1970 Mach 1 428 Cobra jet w/ram air rolling body (without the original engine and tranny)???? How much is this worth roughly?????? How much restored???
Here is the vin number I ran and and the data plate codes that I could read...
