Pawn stars episode....Shelby Cobra?
As a cop, I have to say one word about that whole deal.....SHADY.
Unifinished aluminum body cobra with no powertrain, brakes, interior......
CSX designation with NO serial following it. A tow truck driver claimed to have been given it by a storage unit wanting to get rid of it. SHADY SHADY SHADY. The pawn stars bought it and had it restored. Im not a Vegas cop, but all I can say is good luck trying to title it for sale. Shelby American is aware of it now, and I hope they press the issue that the car just might have been an illegal sale out of the back door of the factory and make the pawn stars pay for it.......I can't stand those guys!

Re: Pawn stars episode....Shelby Cobra?
There was an episode where they bought a motorcycle and they mentioned they ALWAYS run the VIN before completing a transaction. I saw that particular episode, but I don't recall seing the data plate, but CSX VINS only have like 4 digits behind them. Maybe they blurred it out for TV?

Re: Pawn stars episode....Shelby Cobra?
something else in general that I always felt was kinda shady about the 427 cobras:
Shelby was to build 100 to meet homologation rules for 'production vehicle' way back in '65, but somehow won a ton of races when only like 43(?) were actually built, the remaining VINned chasssis have been sitting unfinished in Texas for over 50 years...a few years back, Shelby enlisted one of his top builders to come out of retirement and start finishing the rest of the 65s, then was selling them for 500k, which he donated to his organ donor charity...while his charity has done some great things, still seems somehow wrong that a car built 55 years later could be titled as a new 1965 Shelby 427 cobra.
if he hadnt outlived most of his competitors and Enzo Ferrari, I often wondered if the remaining unfinished cars had come to light 20 years ago if some trophys might have been called back...
no doubt the legendary 427 Cobra and Carroll Shelby will reign as one of the most sucessful underdogs of all time, and they way the big iron fords ran away and hid from some exotic italian creations will always be pretty cool, technically I dont know if the rulemakers knew the whole story if they woulda been allowed to compete at all- but I'm glad they did

That was the STORY... but did that car look like it had been sitting anywhere for 50 years? NFW!
It was yet another one of ole' Shelby's plans to make stupid amounts of shady money.
More and more people are seeing him for the crook he is.

Officer, all pawn shops are always shady, just the nature of the business. Our local pawn shops always co-operated when we would stop-in and question them about stolen goods.

Re: Pawn stars episode....Shelby Cobra?
They never said it was built in the 60's, it was in fact a Shelby continuation series Cobra that was built a few years ago and never finished. A friend of mine here in town has an aluminum bodied continuation series Cobra that is exactly like the car on the show.

Re: Pawn stars episode....Shelby Cobra?
Also out here when you dont pay your storage fee's you lose your crap its that easy I know for a fact someone in the mid 90's got a Shelby Gt350 in the san diego that was burried in clothes and funiture and nothing that was car related.
Out here the storage unit owners dont go through the unit, they open it and start bidding then you have two days to get all the crap out.
Also as far as a title when you get a car in an auction you get special paperwork saying you legally got it at auction you take it to the DMV and bam you get a title.

Re: Pawn stars episode....Shelby Cobra?
Well, continuation or not, they kept calling it a 1965 Cobra, which was wrong. It's just me, I can't stand when money makers take a self initiated crash course in our hobby just to make a buck for the moment, and bastardize everything we have knowlege about and respect for. Thats why I like Jay Leno so much. He not only has the knowlege, but the reverance and respect for the hobby. He's not just some check writer.

Interesting ! I have never heard anything pertaining to Mr Shelby as being a crook. I personally have always thought he was one cool man and gives a lot of money to kids foundations. Am I the first to hear that he is a "shady" man ?
