Re: Help me come up with a good story!

Looks good Eldoon!!!! If the Granada I had looked like that with my 408W in there I probably would've kept it.

When did you do the EFI swap? More pics please, if you still need someone to host them email them to car_scan@hotmail.com and I'll get them up for you.

Re: Help me come up with a good story!

I did the EFI conversion in 2008 ... holy crap, has it been that long??? I used an Explorer upper and lower intake.

Straw poll... which grille do you think looks better? I got a Monarch grill but the consensus where I live is that the stock Granada grille looks better because it matches the headlight bezels. I went with the majority opinion but I kind of like the Monarch grille.

Anything in particular you'd like to see?

Re: Help me come up with a good story!

Do some more pics of the EFI swap. You running headers or reused the Granada ex. manifolds? Where did you put the ECU?

I prefer the Granada grille, to me it looks like there's more open area than the Monarch grille for cooling but that's just me. I found it strange that the Monarch grille still says "FORD" on the upper top part of the grille.

Re: Help me come up with a good story!

Really cool Granada, nice work. The story is quite beliveable cause that is something a Ford executive would do!
Speaking of good stories, But, this is a true one.
Anyone watched Jerry Sienfelds- Comedians in cars going for Coffee?
One episode with David Letterman, Jerrys driving a Volvo wagon, plain jane car until, he floors it.
Seems Paul Newman had a Volvo wagon built running a 302 with a kenne bell supercharger/5 speed & Letterman told Neuman he liked it- So Neuman had one built for David, but, asked him You want a huffer on it? Letterman, not wanting to say A what? said, Oh, for sure.
Catch the episode or any of them, great show about cars & comedians
No intention of hi-jacking your thread, Your story just brought this one to mind

Re: Help me come up with a good story!

I don't have step by step pictures of the EFI swap, mainly because I didn't do it myself. (hangs head, scuffs toe) I hadn't met PSIG yet at that time, or I might have attempted it myself.......with a lot of help! I still know next to nothing, but with what I do know now, I probably would have done it differently.

The ECU is under the dash on the passenger side. Exhaust manifolds are stock Ford 289 hi po. I wanted to go with a bigger exhaust this year (from 2" to 2.5") but repairs to my daily driver ate up my budget for that.

With the 3.55 gears in the rear end, about the only time I use first is starting from a dead stop on a steep hill. My nickname at work is "Driving Miss Daisy" - pretty sedate compared to just about everyone else.

Seems to me there was a four door Granada on some of the Seinfeld episodes too. I always have the best one no matter where I go.... also the only one!

I remember that. And your afterburner/vacuum cleaner fuel pump issue too.

That's a tough one. Perhaps a slightly enhanced air dam (chin spoiler). The grill is a bit of a problem also, as the Granada matches both the bezels, and the hood scoop inlet grilles. My first thought is to experiment with the Granada grille, doing some simple blackout to help the scoop grille matching. If it works, do it to the bezels to match also. Something like this ugly 30-second mod to your photo for concept: [EDIT] one bezel darkened for comparison

I would do this by lightly spraying the entire grille opening satin black, then following with a sanding block wrapped in a shop towel or paper towels, lightly dampened with thinner. This will expose only the leading edges of the thin bars. The primary bar edges and surround would be chrome, and all the remaining opening will be subdued ("backgrounded"), much like the scoop grilles. In-reality, the only change from new is greater contrast and the little rectangles in the openings no longer have their tiny chrome edges. Trying to stick to the "what would the factory do" theme.

Likewise, do the horizontal bars first (leaving the vertical bars blacked) and step back for an impression. It's all your taste and what makes you giggle. Do your thing.

David

[EDIT] OK, a split if it's easier to compare. The next step is your call:

Much to my surprise, a Monarch grille was not a direct bolt on. I cut the centers out of the Monarch grille and a spare Granada grille I had, then put the center from the Monarch into the outer part of the Granada grille, which is why you see "FORD" on it.

It's held together with zap straps, but I managed to hide it fairly well. A little project I did when I was recovering from back surgery and got bored!

PSIG - that blacked-out effect looks really good... as you say, probably what a factory GT would have. I have spare headlight bezels (and had a spare grille until I cut it up!) so I can experiment with it and see what looks best.

Somehow incorporate the Ford/Monarch grill into the story. Idea's anyone?

Mel

Don't worry, be happy

What you said in your first paragraph reminded me that the header panel between Granadas and Monarchs are different hence the grilles do not fit into the other model's panel.

If I ever come out west for a holiday visit I gotta have a look see of your car.
