Re: Geico insurance
After I switched over to Allstate I did keep State Farm on the Galaxie because Allstate didn't offer a classic car policy. I wanted to increase my coverage last Fall. To shorten up a long story I found out that State Farm was changing their policy (in Ohio anyway). It doesn't matter what it is insured for the adjuster determines what they will actually pay you. My State Farm agent even suggested I look into another company. She said State Farm was getting out of the classic car insurance. I talked to Hagerty and that is were I will probably go when my State Farm policy runs out in the Spring.

Re: Geico insurance
I went to the Hagerty site and it looks like they do not offer liability or collision. In fact I searched "theft" and got no hits, either. Driving without those coverages seems like a bad idea to me, and maybe to the great state of Texas, too.
Looks like the only time you can collect is if lightning hits your car - assuming it was properly parked in your garage!

Re: Geico insurance
After we had a small house fire, candles left burning caught wall on fire, but, all smoke damage, ins. company decided our rates were much to low, at year end tried to boost 35%!
Switched to Allstate, only company that noted a 15% break because i had a fire hydrant on front lawn, overall a yearly savings off around 450 bucks for House- 3 cars including 06 GTO.
I;ve had one claim since joining Alstate, after only 2 months, too, i got to pick the company to fix & not a question asked -just get er done!
(upstairs bathroom flood, floor, celing,etc)
Fairlane which is with Lant- Silver wheel now owned by Haggerty, & a bit of a surprise, asked for a new appraisal, pictures to reinstate at current value
so, i have to get a new apraisal , 150 bucks.
i;ve got a bit of a feeling about them asking for this, maybe i;m just being paranoid, will see

Re: Geico insurance
I found a lot of insurance companys wount replace anything that isnt factory or any added eletronic devices radio cd gps etc. They will want to replace body parts with junk yard parts.
I went with Classic inshurance as there is a set value. newer non classic cars a bit different situation but one of my cars has very few stock parts except the body.

They will do their best not to pay out if your car is stolen if it was outside even for 15 mins not locked away in the garage. Think it took 2 yrs for a guy i know to get anything out of haggerty when his el camino was stolen. I never got classic car insurance because i couldn't abide by the rules so to speak. Being military we didn't even know if we'd have a car port at the next place or not and that doesn't count for a 'locked' garage. I know many who do have it and don't have a garage but if something ever happens to those cars then the fun will start. I hope to one day check into agreed upon value somewhere but who knows when. But like with all insurances, no matter the company, it probably depends on your own experience or the experiences of others on if it's good or not. There is also Grundy which seemed to be preferred to Haggerty by some i know but they too have rules but then for the price of the coverage and being a classic i can understand the reasoning behind it.
I thought there was one other classic car insurance out there but can't put a name on it.

Re: Geico insurance
Forgot about Grundy, he sure makes a good pitch on TV.
I just want to make sure whatever insurance I decide on will be determined by mileage and not only being covered to and from car shows and parades. That is the reason I get regular license plates instead of the antique car plates, restrictions. I drive my Gal when I want to and it don't include parades .

Re: Geico insurance
basic limitations I recall. They want it stored inside, not a primary driver, they didnt have much of a issue with mileage, didnt have to have antique plates, didnt wat it used as a grocery go getter. Any nice day might take a local trip or drive. Might make a trip to see my son 480 miles each way. Run to see my brother in FLA close to 1000 each way if I want. If there is a show or cruse in the area once there might partcipate. Might even do a search to find one before the trip. If not oh well.

Re: Geico insurance
Has anyone ever had American Collectors insurance? I've been checking on them and might switch from Hagerty to them. USAA backs American Collectors Insurance and I've never had any trouble with USAA in over 37 years.

Re: Geico insurance
GT300 - I don't have the collector plates either. Keep getting asked why as a lot of them here drive theirs all the time. I just think mine is too obvious for them and in summer i drive it to oregon and have no idea if there is a show. The best i could do is say i'm taking it to my dad for work or something.
I haven't heard any complaints about Grundy really and i totally forgot about American Collectors. Knew there was another one but couldn't remember the name. I don't know anything about them though.

Re: Geico insurance
Hagerty's quoted me full coverage for my 65 fastback with no deductible on collision. It was at decent price too. It is based on the presumption that I won't be driving the car around a lot. That is, in fact, the case with me. Most of the time my car will be on the trailer going somewhere. Obviously, a race track incident would not be covered.
There may be a catch though. I don't know this for fact but if you are ever in an accident they may just total out the car and give you a settlement and take the car. I tried to get them to commit to taking the settlement they would give me and let me buy my car back from them for that amount. It seems they would not agree to do that. The reason I would want to do that is that I have done all the work on my car myself. My engine alone is probably worth over 7 grand to buy one but it didn't cost me that. The same goes for all the interior work, body work and also will be the case for the paint job. The assessed value would be much more than what it has actually cost me.
Something about that seems fishy to me but I don't know. They could offer an undervalued settlement and part the car or auction it at a large profit and pocket the profit.

Interesting. Maybe I read their info wrong..
Does Hagerty write coverage for comprehensive only?
Yes. "Comprehensive only" (other-than-collision) coverage is available when a car is undergoing restoration...
How much was the full coverage?

Re: Geico insurance
I dropped Hagerty a few days ago and went with
"American Collectors Insurance", they will let you buy your car back if it gets totaled.
I also got the option for driving around more so that meant more coverage all around.
