A9L versus A9M versus A9P?????

Got an 86 Mustang LX, formerly a Nebraska SP trooper car. Dropped in Mass air, FMC 303X crate motor (advertised @ 345HP), 255 lph FP, 24# injectors, 1994 Cobra intake manifold, shorty headers, open duals (no cats) full road race suspension, 3.73 w/ 31 spline axle, etc... 3 years ago I when was looking for a computer, I found an A9P. Had to tweak the wiring harness with the adaptor wire for Mass Air, but otherwise, worked fine. Now the A9P sleeps with the fishes and I have to replace it. So, there are A9L, A9M, and A9P computers out there (and maybe more?). Which one will be the most aggressive with respect to timing and fuel? Me want HP! Do not care about emmissions or mileage.... I have a Tremec TKO, so transmission control is not an issue.

Use a WMS SDS as it is programmable.

Great toy, but $1800? How much better than the stock computer is it?

It's $1100 and yes it's that good. Tune on the fly, make adjustments after each mod instead of revisiting the dyno each time for a reburnt chip.

Well if you don't have $1100, any of those computers are going to work about the same. I run the A9P in my Bird. Tried a A9L, and really couldn't tell any difference in performance. But I did have stalling problems when shifitng into gear(auto) with the L that I don't have with the P.

Since the L is for 5 speeds and the P is for AOD's that would make sense.

AFAIK the internal code is the only diff. The ECM's will be changed from year to year or mid model year due to a small change in the engine or emissions requirements.

A9P is an automatic EEC verses its A9L 5 speed counterpart.
the A9P is supposed to have a more aggressive timing curve.
For tuning you could use either one. I would try SCT
(supechips custom tuning) softwhere if your going to tune
yourself. Definitely state of the art and very detailed from
what i understand. Jerry wrobleszki, chris johnson are two of the main guys there..both well known tuners..They even have a hand held version for EEC V now..wish they had it for EEC IV.......E

The computer I am looking at has the code A(L, but also has:
"E9Zf-12A650-A2A" on it. I am looking for the most aggressive box I can get. Are all the A9Ls using the same ignition and fuel curves?

To answer your Q, yes all A9L's will have the same tune. That being said, it won't make any difference due to the large difference you've made in the engines air/fuel requirements, you will have to get a custom chip burned or use a tuner of some kind to obtain the engines peak(or even close to peak) performance. Otherwise you will have an ill-mannered underpowered POS.

Well, I am in Pittsburgh, who can tune a computer here? Or near here? BTW, is it recommended to lift the + battery lead when connecting or disconnecting the computer? The local wrench says it is not required, but I kinda hate to keep buying computers....
