So two summers ago I purchased a '63 boxtop with 50,000kms on it, sight unseen. After having it trained in, this is what it looked like. I wish it was as clean as it looks in the pictures
Now that the panel replacement was done. It was time to decide on a power plant. The plan is to drive this car from Canada to California down the coast. So I opted for an engine that has tons of aftermarket options and is better better on gas than the 390.
5.0L ho efi. Picked up some motor mounts for the 289 that fit perfectly.
At this point we decided we might as well make this a frame off. In order to do this we built some rotisseries. We used the plans from Auto Body Rotisserie Plans. and just adjusted them to suit our needs.
The car off the frame. We completely smoothed the belly.
Once we had the belly of the car completely smooth, we moved on to the frame.
We took measurements and removed the leafs. From there we started to put the 8.8 diff with disc brakes in place.
We are using the front leaf mount for our lower bars on the 4link.
We are mounting the bags behind the axle. I borrowed the bags off our 51 ford project to help mock up the mounts. I will be running Airlift Dominator D2500s.

Now that we had the 4link tacked together, we put the body back on the frame to see how it fits. It turns out that we needed to raise the trunk floor where it dipped. So we chopped out the trunk floor which we had finished.
The car at ride height. It will get a little more lift with the Airlift Dominator D2500 bags.
The car sacked out in the rear.
The gf taking some pictures. She has a way better camera, but we would be still waiting this time next year for her to upload them :nut
Oh yeah can anyone guess what I am doing tomorrow?
The driveshaft was hitting, so we opened up the tranny tunnel. The original brace was way too low, so we made a new one to allow for the clearance we needed.
Just a picture comparing the new with the old.
Started forming the new tranny tunnel.
Tacked into place still need to clean up everything and finish it off.
My friend Luke had a 79 Thunderbird sitting in his back yard. A deal was made and now my Galaxie sports a set of spindles + discs off a 79 thunderbird. The spindles apparently give you one inch extra. Thanks Luke.
Frame clearance of 1" or less when it is layed out now.
