Re: 69 Fairlane 500 Fastback

new update.

intalled the borgeson power steering pump and was able to find adapters to use new stock hoses for now. later plans do include a borgeson box but i had my pump go out so no time like the present.

painted my 9"

and got all the parts together to start final assembly of my 9" one hell of a setup. too bad im not doing a coilover set with it.

Nice build! I love seeing driveable projects. I'm curious as to what you used to clean the engine bay?

Re: 69 Fairlane 500 Fastback

black magic engine de-greaser

i use it on my newer cars alot because it makes the plastic shine for alot longer than most of the engine cleaners ive found.

Nice find man, can't believe you found one with no rust. Can't find anything like that up here in Washington. Only thing that could of made that find better is if it was a big block, but that's what the aftermarkets for right? Haha

i was actually looking for a small block car when i started searching for one. at the time i had a nice 351c that i was going to put into a car. so i was just looking for a shell. when i found this is fit right in, then when the 302 ran i just stuff the 351c into another project. and this ended up with a 351w about a year later. i bought this car to do alot of road racing so i wanted a small block with a good power curve without the extra weight. i know thats an odd statement for a old car like this but i didnt want too much front end weight on it. haha

Yeah a 390 isn't going to help much with cornering haha. I always wanted to set my 68 up for auto-x or road racing, but there's just no places around here for it. But there is a drag strip about 3 hours away, so 429 it is for me. Are you going to go for a mustang II style front setup or keep it stock?

mustang 2s really arnt that great for handling. their really just a hot rod thing that makes it easier to stuff a bigger motor in. im going to convert to to a coil front end of my own design and then later i want to tube the front end and create a newer design that will use a full length coil McPherson setup.

Nice project! Always glad to see another Fairlaner around here. It appears that the bars you have going from the firewall to the shock towers are just bolted in to the lip of the firewall. Are you concerned that as a mounting point that might be too flexible?

You're in Rancho? Were you at the Fairlane Mini Meet last year?

jul 22 2012

so....****....

driving home the other day on the same road i drive everyday, a dodge truck decided she was going to try to make a one lane train trussel while i was already partially in. thank god it didnt damage more but the original ford front glass is ruined as well as the original fender, bumper, brackets, chrome drivers side windsheild moulding and rim. also cracked my upper control arm...but that might have already happened didnt look 100% fresh.

and heres the gruesome. fender wasnt completly off but in order to get it off the road without cutting up my front tires i had to whip out my tool set and take the last 2 bolts out.

dont know where im going to get all the parts for it yet. supposedly there is a 68 ranchero at a junkyard in sac. need to see if the front end is any good. im thankfully the hood and grill are still in nice shape.

now heres the one thing i was confused over. this is the bumper i was given saying it was the correct 1969 bumper. but its not the same one i have. mine doesnt have the dips at the end. which the guy told me was a 68 bumper. was that just on rancheros or also fairlanes?

Re: 69 Fairlane 500 Fastback

attempted to do some trunk cleaning up. first try going to fill in some areas and get an idea for what i want in the trunk. i do want to eventually drop the fuel cell down a foot and use some lighter metal to hold it all up. well see how far i get...i doing this knowing im doing a mini tub last year so im trying to build around that project...

Re: 69 Fairlane 500 Fastback

now with shelby drop

fenders are only set on, not perfect way yet. the drivers fender has 2 bolts in it so that might be the actual ride height. i still need to take the fenders off and roll the edges of the wheel wells remove the ranchero and 351 emblems and and and...haha.
