1971 Mercury Comet GT 2 Door Coup with rebuilt 289 engine 3 speed automatic fmx tranny. I purchased the car over 4 years ago and began the restoration. It has all new ball joints and bushings. New tie rod ends, idler arm, center link, front and rear disc brakes with 4 piston on front brakes.
Ford 9" 31 spline rear end with posit. New wireing harness, new Edlebrock 650 carb, new headers, new flowmaster mufflers, and pipes. New 235/4017 front tires and 255/4517 rear with new Bullet Chrome replica rims/wheels and electric fan. I put two very confortable bucket seats with armrest from a Ford Crown Victoria in front. The dash tray/shelf broke beyond repair during restoration so sheet metal was put in its place. I did purchase an original used tray that will go with the car. I also have the original vehicle manual.
The car came orginally with AC but I do not have the compressor. The shock towers have been cut out because I planned on putting 351w stroker motor in her. The gauges are not connected except for the headlights, turn signals and rear brake lights. I planned on installing performance gauges. There is some rust under the back passenger side floor but metal was welded over it. On the passenger front fender there is a couple of nicks/tears in the comet gt stripping and you can see the gray paint underneath.
Both front fenders and hood are fiberglass and you will notict some spacing between the fenders and doors on both sides. In other words, the fiberglass and the steel dooors are not a perfect fit when your woking with fiberglass. The drivers side door is in need of a new hinge because it does not close correctly.
This car has been garaged and I have driven it a total of about 40 miles in the last four years although the tires, rims, mufflers are about a year old. The rust you see underneath on the ball joints etc was because the heaters hoses rubber cracked and antifreez sprayer all over. The car starts everytime and purrs like a kitten. I had the car on ebay but my reserve was to high so I came down substantially and am asking $7,500 for the car. I am selling the car because I bought another project car last week and I just found out my daughter and her family are struggling in California and are going to move out here to fabulous Las Vegas so I am going to help them out.
The vin# is 1K31F528089. I bought the car a number of years ago from my neighbor and he informed me that the car lived most of its life in Texas. Any questions you can call me at 702-334-2202
