Gas gauge not working correctly

I installed a new fuel sending unit in my 67 mustang and the gauge was working ok at first but now says I have 3/4 tank when i have maybe 1/8-1/4 tank. Is this a ground issue? How do i troubleshoot this?

Re: Gas gauge not working correctly

Remove the wire from the tank sender & ground it. I think it will go to full on the dash guage, then remove the wire from the ground source & the dash unit will go to empty. As i said it could be the opposite, i forget, but if the dash unit does not go to one extreme or the other the dash unit or wiring is faulty.
If any other guages are affected it could also be the dash cluster voltage regulator which suplies the electric to all the guages.

NPD & other mustang soures have a fully electronic unit available rather than the old design. Bill

And be careful working around the tank. A droplight can be a very dangerous tool. A flashlight is much safer.

How are the other gauges reading? A bit high? May also be the voltage regulator behing dash board ready to go wacko.
