289 HiPo Motor for Sale

I have access to a running 289 HiPo motor. I don't think it has been rebuilt and I think it's a 1965. The motor was a backyard swap into a 1964 Comet from a donor car long ago. The carb is not original and the HiPo exhaust manifolds are gone. Everything else looks right. It has to be purchased as a package...car + motor. The Caliente 2 door body is actually pretty good with no floor, trunk, or exterior rust. The front frame rails behind the front wheels do have rust through. Three on the tree, no PS or PB. I think it will take $7,000 to buy it if anyone is interested.

Re: 289 HiPo Motor for Sale

It's likely not a Hipo engine if just the VIN says K code, it's the same 289 engine as the D-code Mustang, a low compression 4 bbl. That why the hipo exhausts aren't there either, they never were. Merc used a K code as the identifier for this engine. It is not the K code we think of that is found in Mustangs. If it's a real hipo, check the damper, under the valve cover, etc. for the proof. The K code merc did have an autolite 4100 1.12 carb, however, so discount that. No hipo was offred in the 64 Calienete. Re: 289 HiPo Motor for Sale

He said it was a swap and not original to the Merc.

My question to the OP is the same as already posted - what makes you think it's a true original HiPo 289?
