SCHART hitting the fan need help!!!!
this damn 64.5 Mustang has a generator...
I bought the Headlight harness from MR. Mustang, this has a portion of the generator harness in it.
They have NO CLUE what wire goes were, and I cannot fine ANY Diagram in the ENTIRE world that has this combo of wires colored as such and showing where they go.
And rather than burn schitt up by "experimenting" and wasting even more of my OWN money on this asshats car I MUST ask here.
Harness comes to core support from firewall. Hangs a left over the $65 dollar Voltage Regulator...
Regulator has BAT FIELD ARMATURE posts top to bottom respectively. Wire hanging from harness is BLACK with Yellow Stripe and a smaller White wire with Purple stripe.
WHERE the heck do these damn things go? I KNOW one is the signal for the generator light in the dash, but NO diagram I've found has these colors listed...
I am sooo close to getting rid of this POS car and I am getting hung up at every turn by idiosyncratic schitt becasue it's a 64 1/2 not a 65...
Any help here? I'm stumped, and the makers of the loom said it's IDENTICAL to the ones they've been making for 20+ years and copied exactly off an OEM harness.
Thanks anyone.

Re: SCHART hitting the fan need help!!!!
Your probably gunna have to indicate them out and make a note for the customer. I will look up the wiring for my 62 Scout with a gen, should be the same since IH used parts from Ford on ALOT of there stuff.

Re: SCHART hitting the fan need help!!!!
OK the BAT goes to battery or solinoid.....thats to monitor the voltage to turn the gen on and off. The armature wire goes to the output of the gen, and the field wire goes to the small post on the gen marked with an "F" usually. Its a very simple hookup, battery, and 2 wires to tha geerator from the regulator. As for the colors, dont sweat that. Get a VOM with a "ringer" setting and trace them by connection and note the color code and write it down for the customer
Hope this helps.

Maybe used the Ford stuff, but what are the odds of the wiring being the same colors? Most MFGS used mostly solid color wires whereas Fords used 'tracer' stripped wiring. Kultz maybe has an answer if he would chime in, but dont know that for a fact either...
Hey FE, dunno if ya can get help from these few pics, maybe can figure it from them?

Re: SCHART hitting the fan need help!!!!
I know where the gen harness wires go but not the ones coming from the headlight loom, but that pic MOF2U put up is perfect, I THINK it shows the black/yellow going to top terminal and the other wire going to the middle terminal.
The butthead that took them on B&W should be shot out of a cannon! Didn't that idiot know that color film was invented in the 50's? LOL
I think It's right now, but those colors do not exist in any literature I've seen thus far.

Re: SCHART hitting the fan need help!!!!
The represented COLORS are NOT on the ZIP diagram. I have that diagram. We are talking about a Big black wire with yellow stripe and smaller gauge White wire with PURPLE stripe coming out of the Headlight harness above the Volt Reg. just as in the picture by the mustnags monthly.
These wires hang perfectly to go to the TOP reg point (BATT) and the Middle batt point the Field. But the damn diagram shows only ONE WIRE going to the Field tab....
And they profess over and over that their harness is 100% factory original in length and colors....
Awwwwe schitt I don't know what to do other than spend the next 25 hours back probing these damn wires to get a hold on where they go... Or unhook them and tape them off...
This is pretty frustrating considering I need to ORDER teh 90* water outlet for water going to the heater core from the manifold as no patrs stores have any like this original one... That's another 8 damn days waiting for the fukking UPS idiots to get here. They're already LATE on the delivery of the hand brake handle replacement...
I am so sick of this damn car.

Understand your frustration. Looking at the diag that I posted up the middle term of the VR isnt the one used, its the outer 2 ones. The one wire that is 'marked as being Yellow/Blk is for the gen light, and just by guessing from your description would be YOUR White/purple. Try to see what the colors are from the interior side of connector to fine the original yellow/blk (what pin its attached to Altho there are two of them,) but then see what the engine compartment wire color is that you installed.... (just trying to make it easier than the probing method)
EDIT:Where is the original harness? was it MIA or what? ya can look at the pin outs as to which wires SHOULD be the different colors.... (just a thought)

Re: SCHART hitting the fan need help!!!!
I just came in and have missed all of the excitement I guess.
Does the below help?
At the last resort, can you take the charging circuit out of the new main harness and replace it with what is there?

About damn time, he's been going nuts trying to find some info, I googled until google got tired..lol YOURS is much better as at least it tells ya where the 2 wires goes without all the b/s that goes with trying to read the damn schematic....
I'll bet he can get it from your ILL....
If he comes back inside to check the forum again, before he lets the smoke outta something...

Re: SCHART hitting the fan need help!!!!
Nothing guy's That's the first diagram I used in locating these.
I have the Original charge harness, nothing mysterious there I used a 63 Falcon gen diagram for that. But the 64.5 horse has the dash signal wire coming out of the headlight harness... There are 3 total wires there.
Light blue Bullet female connector with with yellow stripe maybe 12 gauge
Black wire with Yellow stripe maybe 10 gauge (forked prong connector)
White wire with purple stripe (forked prong connector)
They most obviously go directly to the firewall and to the dash from there.
THESE are the 3 wires but those dorkwads took the pics in BLACK & WHITE!
No diagram I ever found has these colors, nor details why there is a pair of wires that go to a place that not one diagram in the world shows having 2 wires going to it...
