Re: 65 289 wont start

engine needs 2 things to run..
1. Fuel
2. Spark

need to confirm whats missing...
check for spark...
check that fuel is reaching/filling carb

Re: 65 289 wont start

I usually start with the cheapest part related to a problem- have you changed the fuel filter? It could be allowing enough fuel to start the engine, but not run it.

So I got all the water out of the cylinders I haven't tried at 10degree mark yet I will tonight but are there any other thing anyone could think it is? I have good spark and fuel but it just cranks and cranks I have not put a timing light on it yet but I'd imagine just moving the dizzy back and forth slightly I could get it to at least fire up even if it was ruff. Any ideas are welcome I've been at this for a week and a half every day fir hours. 1965 289 edelbrok 1406. C4

Re: 65 289 wont start

"Water in the cylinders" is a new detail. If I read your post correctly, your engine wouldn't start even with the 4100 on it, so it sounds like the problem has nothing to do with the carb change. Did you also change the intake manifold? If so, did you use the correct gaskets and install them properly? If you are getting a large amount of water in your cylinders, that engine will never start.

so yeah it had bad gas real bad gas. So I changed everything I could just put a new coil and it'll start and idle really really ruff for a few seconds and then die. Progress. But what's next. Thanks all

bad gas and sitting for along time could cause sticking valves..
do a vacuum reading and a compression test to best determine whats going on..
