Longtubes. They net you alot of low end torque. And they look cool too.

Re: headers

Long tubes are better for tuneability and power in a race car. but in the typical street car shorties are about as good, especialy after you put and exhaust system on them.

Shorty's generaly don't have ground clearance issues either.

Re: headers

Street car or track car? What state do you live in? In California, LT's on pollution controlled cars is illegal because it moves the location of the cats from the factory location. Lame.

Shorties are definitely easier to install, but you'll get more power from LT's.

Re: headers

Looks like an inexpensive set of 1 5/8" shorty headers. On 12 sec street car, shorty's vs long tubes will be very little difference. NMRA Real Street guys run in the 9's on 1 5/8" shortys.

Quoted for truth. Lot of mythical stuff all over the net about needing long tubes but really, after you see a car with shorties and a 2.5" x-pipe go 9.80s, you realize the crap posted on the net is just that- crap.

I will say this though- some of the equal length shorties are a hassle to change spark plugs with. Like the socket isnt easy to get in there depending on what headers they are.

That pic is a generic pair of unequal length shorties- they will net you a nice bit of flow over stock, throw them on with new gaskets and go with it.

Smile Re: headers

Good Quality Long Tube Ceramic Coated Headers are the best value. They isolate the exhaust pulses from each cylinder better and thereby give better performance in HP and Torque across the RPM Band. They are more difficult to install but superior to the shorties.

I installed a nice set on my 92 Coupe' and used Stage 8 fasteners and used a thick copper gasket between the head and the header. I do not have bolts coming loose and any exhaust leaks. I also used a Nippondenso High Torque mini starter to give more clearance and better starting.

Happy Motoring.

Actually depends on the engine and configuration. But by and large as a general statement, true.
