84 gt350 (what it's worth)

I need some help putting a value on a car, i looked at a 84 gt350 today and im not sure what the value is worth the detailes are as followed.
* 89,000 original miles
* all original except for aftermarket steering wheel and dual exhaust
* 5.0 HO and 5 speed (never rebuilt), Hatchback
* interior 9/10 has one tear in carpet other than that its perfect
* runs drives good
* has a little rust under hatchback and doors
* normal wear and tear on original paint
* underneath the car has a bit of little rust
The car was never drove in the winter stored in a barn every year, (Northern Iowa/Illinois car) I know this car is just a strip package but it has a lil more value than a 84 gt i would think, any way the seller wanted 5000 I offered 4,000, does that seem right. What do you guys think???

Sounds a little too expensive to me.... But then again I ALWAYS say that, and with good reason...

The rust is a bad thing. The fact that nobody drove it more than 3,000 miles per year over the last 30 years should also tell you something....

Why would a person own a nice car and not drive it and enjoy it?

Thanks for the reply, compared to other fox bodies the car has next to no rust and supposedly the car is only driven occasionally and the shape of the car (interior especially) shows that but i was thinking 4,000 might be to high also

I drive my cars I love everywhere because I love them. Maybe there is a reason he never drove it....

Re: 84 gt350 (what it's worth)

The '84 GT350 (a.k.a. - 20th Anniversary) was not highly regarded for collection as it was just a trim car with no special handling or power options beyond the other standard Mustang options. So, it may have a tiny increase in value due to just being "different", but I wouldn't push it more than 10% or so (NADA Mustang GT 5.0L + %). I've seen a few nice ones float by for $2000-$3000 in the last couple years.

I agree the rust is a large concern, as it is with any classic. In a general sense, you are better-off buying a rust-free car at double the price as the cheaper option. Are you willing to spend $1000-$3000 to repair the rust and touch the paint up in the near future? The stickers that 'make the car' are also no longer available, and cu$tom ones would have to be made. And, don't forget, time takes it's toll, so low mileage is nice, but stuff still goes bad and needs replacement even if (and often especially if) it sits more than it gets driven. So, just a reminder that low-mileage doesn't make you immune from most issues.

Although the 5.0L version is generally more desirable as a traditional 'muscle car', the turbo 2.3 version was actually the faster version. Bottom-line is if it lights you up - great - though one with less rust would be a less expensive option in the long run. The same car rust-free from out-of-state at a similar price, plus $1000 to ship in in from outside the rust belt is a viable option, if you see where I'm coming from with this.

I'd put it at $3000 - $3500. If you want some 'specialists' to chime in make a post on FourEyedPride.com an see what they say.

Re: 84 gt350 (what it's worth)

LMAO, a moredoor mustang would make me puke! Like the moredoor Thunderbird, it was the single largest disaster ever made by FOMOCO.... I was devastated in 67 when those ugly bastards came out (that's when I was born LOL), but booooooooooooy were the 67-69 Birds the fugliest creation ever.

Not in design per-se, but in design CHANGE from the previous 3 styles. It was horrid.

Someone may want to mention the 65 Galaxie XL vert that sold at meecum auction for $5500 a couple day's ago that is about 300 TIMES the car this mustang is.... Now calculate the value... $350 to $500 maybe? :?
