Idler Arm Issues

Hello, I have a 65 Ranchero. It was born a 6 cylinder 3 on the tree with manual steering. It's now a 302 T5 power steering. Not sure all that matters related to the idler arm. Similar to the picture below, where the idler arm mounts to the frame, you can see there is bushing exposed. It's like the bushing is too tall for the 'arm'. When I jack the car up and wiggle the wheels, that arm rides up and down on that shaft. Everywhere I look, I am told this is the right idler arm (Moog part K8106), but I have seen other pictures where there appears to be a bushing (like a thick washer) on that takes up that extra space. Not sure I am making sense. It just does not seem right that I can move the wheel and see the center link make that the 'arm' move up and down on that shaft.

Re: Idler Arm Issues

Looks to me like the bushings are not fully pressed into the arm. Did you try just tightening the nut?

Re: Idler Arm Issues

Thanks Fred. Yes, in fact if it did compress more (which it does not) then the nut would past the hole for the cotter pin. That non-threaded part of the shaft is about the size of the stainless shaft of the arm.
