351 based stroker ?'s

I have some questions about a 408 stroker, I currently have a 302 in my street/strip truck, 65 f100 and I am thinking of building a 408 for it.

1. will 302 headers fit on a 351w?

2. Will a 351w mount to the 302 motor mount perches?

3. what year ranges of 351's are the best to stroke and why.

My plan is to use the scat kit all forged with h-beams, aftermarket heads (not sure wich yet), and an intake and cam to match.

What kind of numbers are these 408's putting out, with no power adders?
I would be happy with 500ish now, and mabye bump it up with nitrous later.
Thanks Galen F.

Re: 351 based stroker ?'s

The 69-73 yrs are considered the best yrs for blocks.
I have a 393 stroker ina 94 roller block that is doing fine.
A 408 should get 500 hp no problem.
The 351w will bolt right into the 302 motor mounts.
They 302 headers will fit but migh tbe a bit small for a 408.

Re: 351 based stroker ?'s

It will bolt up to the 302 mounts, but they do sell specific 351W mounts that are slightly thinner than the 302 mounts to compensate for the 351's taller height.
Headers will bolt up to but will probably be a choke point on a 408, definitely don't go smaller than 1 5/8" primaries and 1 3/4" would be better if you can find them.

Thanks for all the help, youre rite about the headers, mine are 1.5" and would choke a 408.

Re: 351 based stroker ?'s

The headers likely wouldn't work anyway due to the 351s taller deck hieght..Althought they will bolt to the engine they will likely make contact with something in the engine bay or the floorboards...If you are only looking to make close to 500hp any year block should be fine...Spend your money on good heads and you can make some very serious horsepower with these stroker windsors.I have the scat 408 kit with a vic jr top end and it works very well.
