Hilborn or Inglese Stack Fuel inj

Does Hilborn or Inglese stack fuel injection seem to add HP over conventional carb. My tuner says he's seen Hilborn stack FI add 50-65HP over big carb. I know car will start easier, idle smoother, better gas mileage, and just drive better with Hilborn stack FI.

Does anyone on her have Hilborn Stacks on their Windsor? and how do u like it compared to Carb. I was told it's way worth the 4k to do it.

Re: Hilborn or Inglese Stack Fuel inj

Stack injections (individual runner or IR) systems are very cool, but very picky when it come to throttle size. They need to have huge throttle bodies in comparison to 4bbl carbs because only one cylinder provides vacuum to the TB. That being said, they can make more HP but not that much more outright HP. The real advantage to them is the mid-range torque. They make tons of torque, and middle RPM power. This is why lots of road racers use them. They also can make more peak HP but the difference is usually only 20 HP or so. Peak HP can also drop off quickly unless the TB's are big enough.
Now I don't know about the mileage, or starting, but the idling is not easier than a carb. You have to synchronize all 8 TB's and this can be very difficult. There are many guys who have serious trouble to get their idle below 1200rpm. There are simply too many places where air can get in. If you get a good kit this will be better than on a cheap kit.

So carb tuning is much easier?

You know, I think tuning a holley 4bbl is pretty simple, and with an 8 stack system there are a lot of variables. Computers make it more simple, but its not easy to get them dialed in. That being my next car will have an ITB system on it probably with a megasquirt computer.

That can all be true, however, the tuning system would be the crux of the issue. There is no balancing an ITB with EFI, it's just like port fuel injection with 8 throttle valves instead of one big one. Not a big deal there. But if you're tuning it, the system must be user-friendly enough for you to get a handle on it and get the results you want. If it is (and I have not used their systems) it should be easier to tune for all the various parameters than either a carb or mechanical fuel injection.

I don't know that it's worth 4 grand. I considered one for my stroker when I found the manifold setup for $550 and adding the EFI would have been about $7-900 more plus labor. Although the 'cool factor' would have been high, I'm not an image person and just used the money to make far more power other ways. So, for me, EFI yes, ITB no. You likely have different desires to guide you.

The Inglese is available with the FAST Ez-EFI self tuning controller and I have only found positive feedback about the Ez-EFI.

Re: Hilborn or Inglese Stack Fuel inj

When I was into Dodge Neons (okay, stop laughing) a lot of guys would run an ITB setup with a Megasquirt EFI. I know of several guys running Megasquirt systems on V8's with great success, so maybe something to check into.

BTW, nothing sounds cooler than an SBF with 4 Webers on top.
