Ive noticed theres not a whole lot of even hydraulic flat tappets that have a respectable rpm range for the reduced rpm range of the 408 stroker. I did however find a lunati Voodoo series 268 cam that seems pretty nice if i go for off the shelf.
I am running a custom grind..I would wait on the camshaft until you have the rest of the motor finalized..The cam should bring all of the rest of the combo together.

I would use ARP main studs and a stud girdle and my block is a '95 truck roller block. Part of my reason for this combination is I'd really like to put 427 badges on it! I'm building a '64 Fairlane replica Super Stocker and I just like those numbers even though it's not a FE.
I personally wouldn't go over a 4 inch stroke..After that you have to be a little careful with connecting rod to camshaft clearance and I have "heard" the extra stroke is hard on a stock block..The 351 roller blocks are also about the weakest of the bunch..Before you spend any money machining yours remove the cam bearings and inspect for cracks..

Comparable power to a SOLID ROLLER......WTF are you talking about. No panzy HYD roller comes close to a Solid Roller. Go ask Joe Sherman and he will explain that to you. But don't go spouting off crap like that man. Solid Rollers are the King of power, end of story.

Also, Comp Cams makes a Street solid roller, and it's tight lash and real easy on parts. I have known guys to get 30k miles out of them and lifters were still good. Joe Sherman has said he has experienced more failures with Hyd Roller cams than ever a Street solid roller. He went on to say the Solid Roller easily makes 50hp or more with the right Combo.

Hyd Rollers fail also, believe me i have seen them, and valve float at High RPM's with Hyd rollers are common.

Don't fear the Street Solid Roller. My little pump gas 393 has an XR292R Comp Street solid roller and runs flawless, plus car makes almost 480wheel all motor street car man with an EDDY 800 vac sec Carb. No fu#king way is any Hyd roller gonna make that power in my engine with my Combo, no way man.

Valve lash every 1500miles and you are good to go.

Of course a panzy Hyd roller will last longer, but it won't make the power or have the throttle response of a Good Street Solid Roller.

Now if you go with a full Drag Roller then they won't last long. The guy with the red 65 Stang had a needle bearing come apart after 650 passes, but he was running a full on Drag racing Roller cam with huge spring pressures and really aggressive ramps and big lash..

I don't understand why the 90* motor won't fit? i'm pretty sure i've seen bigger crammed into falcons.
