I recently removed the air conditioning compressor from my T-Birds 429 Thunderjet. After putting it back together, I keep breaking the belt to the power steering pump. I replaced the pump, same problem. I've tried different quality belts, they all get shredded. I noticed that the belt and the pulley get extremely hot. Not sure why that would be. Any thoughts out there?

Is it rolling the belt? If so check pulley alignment and make sure pulley groove and belts size match.

Are the two pulleys still inline? If they are a little off or even have too much pressure they can destroy the belt.
