Engine Identification/Oil Pan
I picked up a 1977 Thunderbird last spring. Rust free Arizona car. 83k on the 5.0. Its got the small block 302 with an FMX tranny. I pulled the motor to regasket everything. I repainted the entire motor. Everything went very well up until i needed the oil pan gasket. Fel Pro or Victor Reinz didnt quite line up with the back two holes. Front sump oil pan FYI. I started thinking maybe its not a 302, but i looked at the engine code and it says D4AE-6015-AA13. I know for sure its a 74' year motor. D-70s, 4 is year. A is for Galaxie and the E means engine. I found out that S is for Thunderbird. How do i know for sure what the motor is? Why is there a 74' in a 77' car? Im very confused. ?
