Motor Mounts for 460 in 73 Torino
I bought some from Crites for a 429/460 and I swear they are setting the motor down too low in the chassis. They work but I've got some unusually tight clearances in many areas.
Does anybody know the best place to get correct motor mounts for this application?
Thanks guys,
Jon

Ford has discontinued them. I know of no place to get new ones. You can get them from 1972-1976 Torino / Ranchero/ Montego 1974-1976 Cougar or elite. 1977-1979 Lincoln Mark V I have also been told that ones from a Big T-bird 1972-1976 will work, but I cannot gauranteethat they will work. I have a set if you cannot find them that I'm willing to sell.

I am sure this is of no use to you, but I found mine on ebay. I paid $95 for NOS Ford service parts. They still had labels on them. Blueoval6079.com is good place to check for used ones. I am not aware of anybody that makes direct replacements. When I was looking for mounts other guys told me the Crites pieces mount the motor lower in the frame...I guess they were right.

Thanks guys for the responses. Here are some pictures with my Crites mounts. I'm dangerously low in the chassis. Am I missing a part to these mounts?
If you've had good luck with the Crites mounts then what am I doing wrong here.
Here's the passenger side mount:
Here's the driver side header almost resting on the cross member because the motor is so low. Thoughts?

How close is the oilpan to the crossmember? You could use wooden shims to you figure out where you want it, then have metal spacer plates from aluminum made.

dacofa,
Yeah, the pan is nearly resting on the cross member. I'm not quite ready to have something made since I bought these mounts from Crites as a direct fit. They are either bad or there is some other anomaly.
Thanks.

If you have 1/4" or 3/8 " space under cross member that is good to the oil pan, headers might need to be re done they are a tough fit

You can shim them up with some 1/4" inch steel or aluminum plate sandwiched between the rubber isolators.
Obvious question, have you tried Auto Zone or NAPA??

or you can use washers between the mount next to the block to raise it up 1/4 ," 3 bolt holes each side

Hey guys, thanks a lot for the tips. I'll use them as a small part of an upcoming FM article to show you what I did to solve the problem.

Jon-
I'd suggest, if you have a set of original 460 mounts, you can send them to some place such as Dampner dudes to have them rebuilt.
I always thought the 460 mounts were a 3 piece deal, as compared to the mounts I have on the 351c.
About the only other alternative was stated about, used ones from a full size, 460 car. Lincoln/merc/ford from the 70's.

The full size mounts, at least from a Mark 3 Lincoln, are different.
