351 c heads on 302
Hey guys quick question for you,
I have found a set of 351 C heads off a 72 for sale in my area, would the 72 heads bolt on to the stock block of a 68 302?
The guy says they are a 72 351 C 4v open chamber head. I'm not to fond of the style of the head so is it a good performance boost? 302 has stock bottom end for now, looking to upgrade cam just waiting to get the heads sorted out first.
Thanks guys all input is welcome
Garrett

Re: 351 c heads on 302
With a couple of mods they will. a few years ago that was kind of a fad. Makes a 302 a 'fake' boss.... Takes a different style of intake, as well as exhaust manifold/header...

Re: 351 c heads on 302
Ive been doing some resarch online but it seems as if im more confused now then I was when i started. Im finding things that say i have to get special intake gaskets and head gaskets and drilling passages?!?!?
Ive found the intake and headers thankfully edelbrock makes the intake and hooker the headers.

Re: 351 c heads on 302
Better choice in my book for a 302 would be 2V heads. Open chamber either 2V or 4V requires pistons, specialized intake, Water crossover mods, different pushrods, headers (factory cast iron cheeper) other minor things

Re: 351 c heads on 302
well I bought the heads 72 351c 4v opon corba jet heads.
Ive found the required intake, headers, gaskets and have also identified what needs to be machined to have the heads fit the water jacket of the 302.
Im still trying to track down a set of pistons, if possoble id like to keep the bore and stroke the same as stock 4" 3" respectivly just to keep cost down. Im not trying to make a screamer just a clone boss for the most part.
do I have to bore out the block due to the larger compression in the heads? I think the chamber is something like 72cc? not too sure about that though.
im not out alot of cash the heads were 200 and complete so if I cant get this done I dont think id have trouble getting my money back.
thanks so far

Re: 351 c heads on 302
You might want to read this thread. It's on another forum, but this guys took, 351M, 2V, open chamber heads that he got for free, put them on a 302, used a cheap cam from Summit and went 11's. You'll have to do some machine work, and be prepared to spin it.

Uh, just for FYI - the engine in the article was done with Cleveland 4V closed-chamber heads that were modified including tongue plates and 2.25" valves - not 351M heads or any other open-chamber heads. They simply say that other cheap heads could be used to build a street fake Boss. Check the photos and the last paragraph. That said, it can be done.

Right, the MAGAZINE article that is quoted in the thread used the 4V closed chamber heads, the build done in the thread by the OP clearly used 351M open chamber heads.
