New guy with ?

I just bought a '71 GT Torino, Grabber yellow, a/c, ps, disc brakes. 351C, auto, hideaway headlamps. Looks to be a decent car but has some rust I am not thrilled with but I bought it decent. While searching the internet I see there is not much reproduction parts for the 70,71's. Why not ? I figured stuff would be more readily available.

It looks like this is going to be a project compared to a Mustang.

I am sure I will have many ?'s along the way.

To start with I probably need a vaccum a/c-heat damper door control assembly. Up in the instrument panel. is this part shared with any other fords or torino only? Also any links to a parts brakdown for the car so I could find the Ford part #'s for stuff.

Any decent sheetmetal providers out there or is this going to be a find a parts car type of deal? deck lid, 1/4 panels and lower door skins, hood.
Any chance I could cut up a set of trunk corners from a mustang or something and make a patch panel for the Torino.

Hideaway headlamps work but will start to open slowly as soon as the engine is shutdown. Do I have a leak somewhere or is this normal.

I'll stop with that for now and thanks for any info.

Matt

Re: New guy with ?

I have a 70 Cyclone I've had for over 40 years, a long time ago I had that problem. I think there's a plastic Tee against the fire wall that has a round shape to it. I think that's what I replaced to cure the problem. I can take a picture of it when I get home.

Re: New guy with ?

I found the check valve and it appears to be bad. I can pull the vacuum line off and plug it with my thumb and doors will stay closed. Now where to find one. I've found a couple online for cougars and Thunderbirds but kinda pricey. Also found some from cough, cough GM products that may work also.

Re: New guy with ?

Please keep me posted, I'm working on my winter sports stuff right now but when winter starts I'll be in the shop working on the Cyclone. My headlight doors open after about a week.

Re: New guy with ?

I got the check valve replaced and it works a bit better now but still open after shutdown just a lot slower. I hooked up a vacuum pump and discovered a leak in the vacuum motor . What are my options there ?

Here's a pic if I get it to load.
