Hi,
I am helping my nephew with an 83 Ford F-150 he has bought. He got it running and after about 20 minutes it just quit, when trying to restart it was just backfiring thru the carb. We pulled the cap and the distributor was not turning with the starter cranking the engineover. So pulled the distributor and tried installing another used distributor, he cracked two teeth off the used distributor. I ordered a new distributor drive gear but it came with a larger hole in the gear, .531 instead of .467. The distributor is marked C9ZF-12131-A on the shaft. It has a tag that is marked 71

Does anyone know what year and application this distributor is from?
The engine is from a 89 or newer Lincoln Towncar? it is a 302

I don't know what year the distributor is from, but suggest you see if the oil pump turns freely. You can use a drill and there's a tool they'll loan you at Autozone to spin the oil pump. Seems like the distributor drive gear is under heavy load.

Pump is free and turning. Ford motorsports has a gear listed, part # M-12390-B out of a 2001 catalog. Is this an uncommom gear? The parts stores only seem to have the M-12390-F, I need the .467 inside hole in a steel gear as it is a roller cam.

Uncommon from FMS these days. Your Ford dealer should have them, but there are less expensive alternatives. There are several suppliers like Dorman (90467) or Standard (DG17) and others. Rockauto.com has them for about $23, there are some on Fleabay for a few bucks less, or check the HELP! (Dorman) section at the stores for them. Even a used distributor at the local 'yard may be less overall.

Before I make a sleeve I'll check those parts numbers out, thanks for posting them. We have Advance Auto, Auto Zone and Napa here and I've ordered every gear they have on their books and returned them all. I sure wish they still used parts books and the phone, the computors had no info on most so it was a crap shoot as to what was going to be delivered the following day. The only one that was steel with a .467 hole was 68 dollars + tax.

Dave, went to NAPA The Standard DG17 has the .531 inner hole for the 302/351 W withe 351 duraspark Distributor. The Dorman 90467 could not be found with any info as to steel or cast iron, or if .467 or .531 inner hole. Thanks all for looking, I'm going to sleeve the .531 hole I'll post how it works out:)

Hi, operation was a success:) I used an old electrical ground rod and turned up a sleeve for the .531 gear, I pressed it into the gear and made the ID a snug slip fit on the distributor shaft. Distributor is installed and all is well, runs like a bear.
