When I think of ford rear ends I typically think of the 8 inch, 8.8 inch and 9.0 inch. When someone talks about an 8.0 inch rear end is it the same thing as an 8.8 inch rear end? Lately I've been finding some folks that use the two ( 8.0 and 8.8 ) interchangably. I need an edjumacation, please help!

No the 8 and 8.8 rears are not the same. The 8inch is basically just a slightly smaller version of the 9 inch. The 8 and 9 inch rears have removable "pots" that go into the front of the axle housing as a complete assembly. The 7.5 and 8.8 rears used in the newer Fords have a cover that bolts onto the rear side of them which allows access to the gears inside.
