electric fuel pump mounting locations

I am upgrading my fuel system and have purchased a Holley electric pump and fram fuel filter. The pump instructions say to mount the pump by the gas tank and slightly below so the pump is gravity fed. Well, there is no way to mount mine below the tank. I can get it real close to the tank but closer to the top of the tank. Is that going to work? I have the nitrous ready to go but I need the fuel pressure and volumn. I have a 69 Cougar and have no other place to mount it. Any suggestions. Thanks

just mount as close to the tank as you can, and use a big feed line. mounting on the inside of the fender or somewhere close to there should be good

I have a 69 Mustang. Chassis wise it is the same as your Cougar. When I first installed my Holley pump I made a bracket for it. It was a piece of aluminum plate. About 4" wide X 9" long X 1/8" thick. I bent it into an L shape. The short leg was about about 4", long leg about 5". Was not bent at 90, more like 70. The angle matched the slope of the metal directly behind the tank in the trunk. Bolted the bracket to the trunk floor and then the pump to it. It made the bottom of the pump about 1" lower than the tank. I used rubber (old shock bushings) between the bracket and trunk floor to cut down on the noise. I was using a small inline filter.

Worked great like this until I put a fuel cell in and moved the pump and new cannister filter and a new bracket over to the passenger side frame rail because the fuel cell sump was in the rear. Later on I back-halfed the car and mounted the pump and filter on the new frame rail in about the same location. A pic of the new setup: Note that the Holley blue in the pic is now a Holley Black. The filter is from Russell.
