Mexican 302 block

Has anyone here had one of these blocks sonic tested? If so could you post the results as well as the casting number of the block tested. Also if anyone has had one bored, did your machinest mention anything about the hardness of the block in regards to how well it roughed and finished.

Thanks,

Ric

Mexican 302 block

I have one and just had it all machined for my 331 stroker.

Don't have the info with me but will post later when I get home.

I did have it sonic tested before it was bored .030.

The casting # on my block is "75ZY-6015-AA".
Casting date was 31H74 (backwards I know!).
Engine assembly date 4K17 (Hey! that one's right).

It had the higher deck height (8.229) vs the earlier 8.206. So I had to do some milling to get myself .005 in the hole.

I didn't have a chance to talk to the machinist about how he though the iron was.

Here the sonic (done before boring):

Seems like rather thin cylinder walls. A lot of core shifting too.

It is what it is.

I've seen thinner.

I have a friend who once beated a 302 into pieces to see what the wall thickness was (a fight between his wife and daughters had something to do with it ) I think it ranged from .140 to .240. I don't remember if it was standard bore or not.
