oil pan to pickup question

I did a mockup of the bottom end on the cleveland build and the Milodon oil pan and matching pick up just barely touch when installed properly, how much clearance is recomended for a engine to not starve at high rpm ? also the screw in oil pick up is snug but not tight when clocked properly, it cant turn loose when the support bolt is in place so is snug good enuff to not suck air? like i said its snug, hard to turn by hand.

Approx 3/8" is a good start point.

oil pan to pickup question

I generally look for about 1/4"-3/8" gap for the pickup-pan clearance. I always weld the pickup to the pump so I know for sure it won't come loose, not solid just a couple good tacks so it won't move.

If you don't want to weld the pickup, use carb cleaner spray to clean the threads on both parts and use red loctite on them. After an hour the tube will be tight, won't suck air and won't come loose unless you heat it with a torch to release the loctite.Works great.
