427 Side Oiler

Having Problems With My 427 That We Just Started
Low Oil Pressure At Idle.
The Pressure Relief Spring And Plunger May In Block Wrong.
Can You Help

I just built one of these a year or two ago... but can't remember for sure off the top of my head. I'd have to look it up. Your best book for that engine is 'How to Rebuild You Big Block Ford'. Tons of good info. However, the best online place for info on the FE is at 332-428 Ford FE Engine Forum

the long rod end goes to the threaded plug back of block

Dan is right.

During assembly, the spring goes in first, then the relief valve with the pointy part sticking towards the pipe plug (towards you as you install it), then the pipe plug.

These reliefs arent really necessary, and remember these springs have worked for a while. I have a little .250 shim I made for between the spring and the valve, recommend you do it too.

You dont want that relief dumping before the oil pump relief dumps.

Many guys put a dowel in place of the spring, or plug the passage internally, but I dont really think thats necessary, shimming the spring does it
