C4 valve body swap

I need to swap out the valve body in my C4. I haven't had a C4 apart for a LONG time - I usually have my machinist do all my tranny work.

But, now I want to take out the valve body that is in the car and replace it with a valve body in my spare transmission. I want to do this with the tranny still in the car, of course.

Am I going to run into anything unexpected, like check balls falling out or anything?

I just plan on dropping the pan, unbolting the VB and swapping it out. The one in the car is a manual reverse, and the one I'm putting in is a factory, automatic, forward. I know I still have the gov. in this tranny, so other than hooking up a vacuum signal to the modulator, there shouldn't be anything else I need to consider, is there?

Provided the years are the same there should be no problem.

But if you are installing anything 70 or newer into anything later it will not fit.
Vice versa.
Nothing will fall out.

If you remove the filter, watch for the little piston and spring, note their orientation. The filter holds them in. If the filter is not being changed, then no problem. VB bolts get 80~120 INCH LBS of torque. If you don't have a torque wrench that reads that low, get one. Nothing else except I like to have the shifter in neutral, then line up the manual valve with the shifter. Watch the kickdown lever - it can get into the wrong place easily, it has a narrow little space where the lever fits to rest on the end of the valve. Other than that, enjoy the taste of Type F.
