Low gear planetaries out of what???

Okay. I've seen a few custom sets of planetaries that are low gear sets. They look to be a stock planetary, ring gear and sun gear out of some other trans. They are then modified to fit a C4. My question is what are these planetaries out of. If I wanted to make my own low gear set, what kind of planet would I start with. I'm guessing a trans out of a small engine. Maybe front wheel drive. I know what most rear wheel drive planets look like and they are generally too big to fit a C4 case. I'm quite sure I can make it work if I just start with the right set. Does anyone have a clue?

I'm waiting on a custom 2.75 set from JPT for a customer of mine. His set broke(not the planets fault. Long story) I'm just thinking that I would love to make them myself.

I have not had my hands on a TCI 2.75 set, but I hear that they are not very strong. TCI doesn't even recommend them for racing. JPT puts theirs in race trannies all the time and seem to hold up fine.

I took my PA 2.92/1.70 set to my local trans shop as the owner wanted to see it more than anything. From what we said it looked like a GM Front drive plantary with a ford hub center welded into it. I haven't beat on mine too much but I'm not gentle either. I've had zero issues so far.

That's what I think they look like too. Front drive planets out of small engine cars that need low gears.
