drilling pan for temp sender

where is the best spot?

stock pan.

or is putting a t fitting in the 'tranny to cooler' line the best spot?

Have seen T fitting in the in the line but i think the pan is good.Anywhere in the side of the pan would be fine .

The pan is the best spot - it will give you the truest reading of actual fluid temperature. Depending on the size of your sender the rear of the pan is where the most room is but it means running the cable (or capilary tube) a long way to get back to the dash. Be sure to tie it down in several places to keep it from harm or harming something else.
