Manual vs Power Rack & Pinion Steering ?

Thinking about going with a Unisteer R&P unit for my 63 V8 car.
Can those of you who have driven R&P Falcons/Mustangs let me know your opinion on manual versus Power?

How much easier is a manual R&P to steer than the stock Falcon manual steering, etc?

Iíve also read about some problems with the steering rod location on this unit with headers?

[Thanks

Re: Manual vs Power Rack & Pinion Steering ?

I have the Unisteer pwr rack. it is easier to steer than I thought it would be, but didn't take long to get use to. Not sure about the manual, but I like the power steering. The company installed the rack on a car using Hookers headers if I recall. Check their website. Hookers will only work on heads with the spark plugs in the stock location.
If you want to spend the money, Stan Johnson of Ford Powertrain applications(FPA) makes a set of headers for the Falcon with r&p, and will fit all heads. They aren't cheap. I just installed a set, $535.00 to my door non coated. I shimmed the motor up 1/4 inch and they cleared everything. They are made to use with cable clutch, and r&p. They fit good. They were the only ones I could find to fit my heads and cable clutch and r&p steering.

The unisteer has a great mounting system and is very sturdy. I think you will like it. It mounts to the bolts that hold the frame mounts(six bolts) and becomes a very strong cross member.
