Looking for the best place to find 5 lug Spindles

Hey guys, I haven't posted in awhile because I have been busy with school. So I have bought some headers from Crites performance along with a shock tower mod kit (not the whole tower just a portion) so I will be dropping my newly broken in 351w and want to swap to 5 lug as soon as posible. I wanted to know where the bast place is to find the spindles for cheap.

Thanks, William

William,

I would look at Craigslist in your area by searching under Falcon. If for some reason you can't find the spindles locally, look under Killeen/Belton Texas and there are several for sale. You will also need to find a complete steering from a V-8 car, from pitman arm, idlerarm, drag link, and both inner and outer tie rod ends. Used ones are hard to find but Falcon Parts has what you need. Good luck.

Re: Looking for the best place to find 5 lug Spindles

William , I guess you know other spindles with fit besides the falcon ones. I had 77 granada with disk brakes on my 64 at one time . Now it had 66 Fairlane drum brakes on it . They fit and lined up good i did have to use the Fairlain outer tie rod ends which fit right . The rest of the linkage is 64 Falcon v/8 style . I just replaced all of my 6/cy power steering linkages . I don't know about fitting other Falcon linkages.

64 Falcon Futura bought new one owner.

65/66 Mustang v-8 spindles are the same as 65 Falcon v-8 spindles

Re: Looking for the best place to find 5 lug Spindles

Any spindle that fits a 65 Mustang fits a Falcon too. Later Mustang thru at least 69 will work, along with Maverick. I would say to go with a CSRP kit. Not necessarily the cheapest initial cost, but all in all its not bad, and makes things a lot easier. I like the kit that uses later model aluminum calipers, see here: CSRP discbrakeswap Mustang Disc Brake Conversion Kits SWAP1
Id use swap 4.3MF.

For linkage make sure you use 65 v8 linkage, presumably manual steering. Center link must be Falcon specific.

Yep. And better geometry than the 63-64 Falcon spindles. Use the 65 Falcon center link and everything else will be inexpensive Mustang tie rod ends, etc. I'm collecting parts for this swap now. I bought new tie rod ends for my early 64 Falcon in 1990 and they were like 40 bucks each, and they're at least double that now.

Am I wrong in assuming that the hub can be replaced?

Or is the OP asking about a disc swap too?

I assumed he had a 6/cy car with the 4 lug drums, they use a smaller spindle than the v/8 ones do. Assuming that i thought he wanted the bigger spindle to get the bigger bearings and brakes . I'm not sure now what he is after , maybe he will inform us , that would be helpful ,L.O.L.

Re: Looking for the best place to find 5 lug Spindles

Slight Hijack here... Are the V8 spindles and bearings considerably stronger?

I was planning on keeping the factory 6cyl ones, and doing a Scarebird swap to 5 lug hubs and discs.

Difference being, my engine is a 2.3 Turbo. I don't know the weight off the top of my head, but I'm thinking its less than a V8.

Re: Looking for the best place to find 5 lug Spindles

Yes the V8 spindles are thicker and stronger, some people never change them when they swap to a V8. But I am planning on swapping, but I have the scarebird kit atm and plan to keep it on for a few months before swapping the spindles and axle.

How is the Scarebird kit? I honestly haven't had the chance to ask an end user.

I bought the kit for a v8 and 14" wheels
Used later model GM intermediate front drive calipers
10" Toyota Previa rotors

I used a master cylinder for a Mustang II (used Falcon pushrod)
And to avoid a little machining, I went ahead and bought the hubs
Scarebird had already trimmed down for the Toyota Rotors (will have to purchase different dust caps as original will not work)

Lil Ranchero stops great --- no power assist---actually works better than I had anticipated

66 ElCamino-307/5spd
65 Ranchero-289High Performance/4-spd-bought new by my uncle(now with a 302)

Re: Looking for the best place to find 5 lug Spindles

Sorry again about the Hijack...

Good to hear guys. I think the Scarebird kit will be perfect for my application. Looks like Rusty got the answer he needed.
