Battery Question

What size battery or group are some of you running in your 64/65 V8 Falcons? I usually get the highest cold cranking amps I can get, but wondered what size to get. Mine had no engine, battery, etc. when I got it. I've gotten to the stage of installing the new wiring harness and need to get a battery. I'm close to starting the engine for the first time.

The 24F group may be the original battery size, but my bird's battery hold down clamps the bottom of the battery. The only battery I found with that type of clamping was from Auto Zone and it isn't the 24F. Unfortunately I am out of the country at the moment and I don't have a photo of it to post.

But in my neck of the woods, the only parts Pep Boys seem to carry are for Chevy.

FYI DuraLast is made by the same company that makes the Die Hard. I've had Die Hards last for close to eight years.

Re: Battery Question

I just checked back with this thread yesterday and I'm glad I did. I forgot about the battery being clamped at the bottom. I looked at a Duralast 24F yesterday and it's slick around the bottom. I had planned on getting a NAPA battery but it is the same way so it won't work unless I use a different means of holding down the battery. I've been installing a new wiring harness in the car and almost have it ready to fire up the motor for the first time. I'm going to need a battery very soon. If any of you know of one that will fit in the tray and has the tabs on the ends, please let me know.

Re: Battery Question

I don't need it that bad. Another size or group will be fine as long as the post are oriented right. I would prefer to use the original type hold down. I would use a different one but I don't want something that looks like crap. My 66 Chevy II hold down goes across the battery.

Re: Battery Question

I've found a couple of different options so I can use any 24f battery. Mac's has a modified tray supposed to bolt in where the original does, but used the 66 and up top hold down bracket and J-bolts. Melvin's has a conversion kit that has a bracket that goes under the existing tray, and comes with the 66 and up top bracket and J-bolts. Guess I will go with one or the other of those.
