TTZephyr hits the track!

in the 11s.

Here's a rundown of the setup, lots of stock parts.

Re: TTZephyr hits the track!

Nice! On your way with an almost stock 5.0L HO and 11's. Gotta love it. How are you controlling timing? I bet you're just hitting 3rd gear at the traps, and you need much lower - or a bit higher - gears to trap at the top of 3rd or 2nd gear. Which way are you going to go?

Re: TTZephyr hits the track!

I have an MSD6BTM pulling timing under boost. I don't plan on changing out the 3.08 gears because its a street car and that is part of what keeps it so streetable. That and the stock cam! :-)

Re: TTZephyr hits the track!

I'd better update this with the newest time....

These are through the stock E7TE heads the new heads just arrived yesterday so hopefully the car will run much better after I fix that bottleneck.

Re: TTZephyr hits the track!

Nice. Yeah, anybody's crappy aftermarket heads will put a stock block turbo 5.0 fox into the 10s. Have you run a plot on your compressor map to verify you can push the greater volume at the same pressure at reasonable shaft RPMS?

Re: TTZephyr hits the track!

There are tons of twin T3 sbfs out there running 10s and better, this is one of those cases where I just let others prove things for me, if there's a problem I could always upgrade.

New heads are 185 CNC twisted wedges.

Re: TTZephyr hits the track!

OK I just checked on your combo and ran the numbers. Your .60 AR compressors should be fine up to ~15 psig with TW 185s, at which point you'll have had to face other issues from excessive power anyway.

Re: TTZephyr hits the track!

Only running 10 psig right now, wondering if I'll lose some when I uncork the restriction in the airflow path (re:heads, valves)?

Re: TTZephyr hits the track!

Yes, but your wastegates will compensate to run the same manifold pressure. It's the belt-drive superchargers that see the pressure loss without a pulley change, yet better power at the lower boost level. So, I would suggest dropping to 6-7 psig so you can re-tune to the new flow. You'll probably get to push timing up a few degrees as well with those heads, but tuning will tell. Check your plugs religiously on the return road if you have a pullout spot until you get dialed-in. Are you using more octane (fuel blend) at the track and 10 pounds or pump gas?

Re: TTZephyr hits the track!

That 11.54 is perfect for a street car. If you run faster than 11.50 at the track you'll have to put a cage in it. Sweet car!

Thought I saw a significant amount of smoke up there?
