Dutch trackday action with my '67 Mustang fastback
Last weekend Team Mustang Center Netherlands organised their 50th Mustang anniversary meeting at the seaside racecourse of Zandvoort.
With great weather, a good crowd, 560 Mustang attending, the unveiling of the 2015 Mustang, and all-day track action it was a wonderful event.
I had the opportunity to do three sessions on the track with my '67 fastback. Two of which together with the FIA 'k-spec' Mustangs and Falcons of the national pre '66 touringcar championship.
I had installed some used qa1 shocks under the car since I last visited Zandvoort, in the hope of stiffening up the ride somewhat for track duty. While nowhere near 'racecar' stiff, it did improve handling and make the car a lot more predictable at speed. My personal best laptime improved from a low 2.17 to a low 2.13. Which would have placed me 13th on a 40 car grid in their last race.
Too bad the last session ended early for me. Someone in a late model Mustang left his overtaking a bit too late. I got tapped in the rear quarter after turning into a slow lefthander.
