2011 Mustang - Car of the Year?
1 Attachment(s)
The 2011 Mustang, both the 5.0L V8 GT and the base 3.7L V6, are looking to be the most popular cars of 2011. NADA Guides, the largest new-car buying research website, is reporting that for the year "2011 Mustang" is the most researched new car on their website. Distant second is the 2010 Chevy Equinox, followed by Ford again with the 2010 Ford Fusion.

This doesn't surprise us, Ford has seemingly perfectly timed the new Mustang. If they had launched the new engine platforms for 2010, the results could have been a bust. With the economy improving, new car sales on the rise, and a little less buzz around hybrid mania, horsepower and sportiness seems to be back on the minds of many car buyers. Though, both the GT and V6 have very respectable claimed fuel economy, with 26 and 31 highway respectively.

It's also helping that the 2011 Mustang GT is showing some stellar real-world dyno and track results. Rear wheel horsepower is ranging in the 375-395 range with about 350 lb.ft. of torque, which means the 412HP crank rating from the factory is conservative. The car is running mid 12's at over 114 in factory form on street tires. With slicks we've seen at least one high-11 second report. Keep in mind the new 32 valve DOHC engine has 11:1 compression and spins to 7000.

The V6 is no slouch either, cranking out about 265 horsepower at 6600 rpm to the wheels and similar in torque. That is as good at the former push-rod 5.0L V8 but with two less cylinders!

Both models should be hitting dealer lots mid 2010, so get orders in now - we predict they are going to sell fast for the first few months.

The V6 puts out as much RWHP as the 96-98 Cobras did. I read CNN money and they placed the camaro over the mustangn their test. Seemed stupid since the Mustang beats the camaro in all categories! The 2011 is very nice! I would almost trade my 03 Cobra in for one.

Re: 2011 Mustang - Car of the Year?
I love everything about the 2011 except that horrid (IMO) rearend...the performance/economy, the look (from all but the rear 3/4 with that bumper jutting out and the euro taillights- at least theyre sequential), the interior is gorgeous- best looking/feeling steering wheel Ive ever seen...

Ive tried to let the backend grow on me, but it just looks foriegn to me, enough that not only wouldnt I want one, but the day after the speed channel reveal of the 2010, I called the dealer and bought a 2009 gt identical to my 06 for whenever it wears out...the 09s a year and a half old with 3 miles on it...saving for that sad day when the 06 is no more...if the 10/11 just had a mustang like rearend it would have been IMO the most desirable looking/most capable mustang of all time...I cant understand where the aftermarkets at on the 10+ rearend, I'm not the only one that really hates the new backend, theres a big market out there for some different taillamps and bumper cover...keep hoping to see something more mustanglike pop up, but then I'll be torn about what to do with the 09 :)

anyway, gotta say the 11 mustang is the best ponycar/musclecar overall today...a bit worried the price is creeping up away from the 'average guy' pricing that was available a few years back, but what isnt...
who ever woulda thought a new 12 second 26 MPG Mustang was coming 10-15 years ago...the good old days are right now! some still dont want to call these musclecars, but how many musclecars could run 11's stock with a pair of slicks? I love all the oldschool musclecars, but man have we come a long way since the anemic 80's :)
