I tried finding a donor fan shroud for my '64 / 289 but can't seem to find one that I can even modify to work. I'm also replacing the fixed four blade with a flex fan (while keeping an eye on radiator clearance). Any suggestions on a shroud I can make fit?
I used a fixed pitch six blade fan it is made by flex-a-lite. It was not to expensive. I am using my wagon for towing. You might think about building a shroud out of sheetmetal. It is not to difficult.
Thanks for the word of caution. I've got a couple of inches of clearance using the stock fan spacer but I'll keep a close eye out. I have about resigned to the fact that sheet metal stock and a few hours with a metal brake will be my best option. Given our 110* summers I don't think I can to without one.
i build them all the time they are really easy. Now, if you are having an issue with gettin one done , do what we do with some of our dirt cars, get a high pitch fixed blade fan, and set it to 15/16 ths from the radiator. I dont know why this works but I swear it does. Dale McDowell runs this very same set up with no shroud at all and runs over 100 laps a weekend. BUT I highly suggest the shroud. Half in half out with a very tight fit to the blade and make sure it is sealed really well to the rad and you will have great success. BTW that high pitch blade is a GM # available at a GM dealership for around 30 or 40 bucks, dont get the Aftermarket knockoff of it , they do not work as well for some reason
