Thermactor system removal.

I would like to remove the thermactor pump, valve and hoses. I don't like the cluttered look, enough hoses already, and have no use for the emission control system.
Do i need other components, exhaust manifold or any plugs, for this removal?
Its a 67 galaxie 500 2 door hardtop with a 289ci.
Please give me some advice.

Re: Thermactor system removal.

I've never removed any of that stuff but one of my exhaust manifolds was from a car with it I think as it has the little tubes sticking out a tiny bit that are mashed closed.

I would think you would have to plug any vacuum holes so they don't leak and it will probably effect the idle so would need to adjust the carb and maybe timing to make up the difference. I'm not 100% positive on all this but that's my thoughts at least.

Can't blame you for wanting to remove all that excess stuff on there and clean it up a bit.

Re: Thermactor system removal.

I have removed the complete thermactor system, pump, hoses and i have chosen to remove the banjo bolts on the manifold(so i didn't need to hammer the tubes shut). The timing and idle where still fine. It's running more easy now and the throttle response is better also.

thanks for the info.

Re: Thermactor system removal.

I would be sure to keep all the stuff you pulled off. In years past, folks just tossed it in the dumpster, and now as emissions laws are getting stronger, the demand for these items for reinstallation is rising. The going rate for a complete and functional thermactor setup is in the thousands of dollars for certain years and models. Just ask some of the Republic of Kalifornia guys...

Do you have instructions on how to remove it? Looking to take mine off of my 66 Thunderbird.

Re: Thermactor system removal.

thermactor is just air injection. a pump and control valves to direct the air. block the inlets to manifold, reove the pump and diverter valve. block the vacuum line that controlled the valve. done
