How much should I pay for an Autolite 4100?

I am going to look for an Autolite 4100 to put on my 62. What is a good, complete core going for? I can rebuild it myself, so that is not an issue. They used to be about $100 at Autozone for a rebuilt one, but they are over $300 now. I am not looking for any specific date code, but I believe I need the 1.12 stamping.

Re: How much should I pay for an Autolite 4100?

With a car name like "Big Al", I'm going to guess you don't get down to Auburn very often. If you do, I might have a 4100 I can part with pretty soon (just bought a parts car I have to go evaluate in the next week or so). It is supposed to have a 390, going to look at the engine and might be swapping it out for my 352. If it also has the higher CFM 4100, the one on my 352 will be sitting around. Give me a little time, and make me a decent offer and we might be able to work something out. It does need to be rebuilt though.

On the average they seem to be going for about $50 to 125$ on ebay.

I have never even been to Auburn. All I know is there is a college there and a football team. Big Al is in 42,742,640 pieces right now. I am in no hurry for a carb and I will keep your offer in mind. I just like to have parts before I need them. I had located a 4100, but it wasn't buildable. The throttle shafts were worn and it wouldn't idle on the other car. I built a Holley for him, but a friend needs it more than I do.

50 to 125 for a core? Dang. I only have $65 in the Holley.

on my searches, you get $75 for a worn out one missing some parts up to $300+ for a fully rebuilt version.

This carb worked fine, but it backfired through the carb this morning, and I think some gaskets melted as it leaks gas now so it definitely needs rebuilding. Just let me know if/when you decide you need it.

I am going to continue to look around here, but I will let you know if I need it. Mocking up the transmission brought some problems I did not expect and money is short. I plan to have this car on the road in 2035.

Is that when you retire? Didn't know the carbs went up that much at AZ! I got mine there for $149 w/core just a few years ago. But then there's been quite a few things I got from there that have doubled or tripled in the last 10 yrs or less.

Re: How much should I pay for an Autolite 4100?

They changed rebuilders and the price jumped. It was still $169 this time last year. The brake boosters are ridiculous also. I have had the car almost 15 years and I am only 2 years into my build. I figure another year to get it right. I have had it off the frame and back on, rebuilt the suspension, steering, brakes and painted the underside. Then the funds got thin. Now that the weather is cooling off I can gather more parts and finally build an engine. It may be a basketcase, but it is my basketcase.

Re: How much should I pay for an Autolite 4100?

I bought a spare 4100 on ebay in May for $40. It had been sitting on a garage shelf for a few years, but other than the usual varnish and grime, in great condition. Threw a kit in and it runs like a top.

It pays to save your search and check several times a day. Some unrealistic dudes have 4100's in dirty condition listed for $200. But other times you find someone cleaning out a garage (non car guy) and just wanting to get rid of it. Great deals then.

Re: How much should I pay for an Autolite 4100?

There is a no-crush salvage yard about 20 minutes from here. I am going to give them a call and see what they have. They have cars going back to the 40s. I bought my factory 4 barrel intake from them for $50.
