Exhaust Manifolds

Ok, i've had my leaky manifolds fixed twice now. The gasket keeps burning out. I think I remember someone on here saying not to use gaskets at all. I really need to get this sealed up. What's the best way? I can order copper gaskets through Advance would that work any better? OR, does anyone have some old headers laying around they would want to depart with cheap to help a guy out. Rich, it's a 65 with a 390

Thanks,
Bryan

Since Rich is also in NC, he might be able to come around and sort out your cat problem, and then maybe give you advice on the exhaust.

Re: Exhaust Manifolds

The manifolds are warped. You have to first have somebody true them up by machining or use of a big flat sander. Then put them back on with no gaskets. Works like a champ.

Re: Exhaust Manifolds

I have had the same problem in the past. I took manifolds to the machine shop and had them surfaced and re-installed with gaskets, same problem 1 year later. Muffler shop buddy told me to use high temp gasket sealer (red). Put new gaskets on with the red stuff and it has been OK now for 4 years.
