My 1965 Ford Galaxie 500

I want everyones opinion on this car. I paid $2000 for her. it has a 351w in it with a c6. supposedly a 69 windsor from a fairlane or torino. im gonna look again for the casting numbers today. Pulley system is from a 78 mustang. Needs floor pans, and some body work, and an all new interior. The motor idles rough and likes to die while idling. Supposedly its been cammed, and bored .30 over. After market distributor, ignition coil, and air cleaner. Body is going to need some work as well. Pictures make it look better than it really is. Let me know what you guys think

If you wanted our opinions you would be asking if it is worth buying.
As it stand, congratulation on the new car. Glad you and the previous owner were able to agree on a price that was acceptable to both.

Re: My 1965 Ford Galaxie 500

thanks. im pretty happy with it. it definitely has a long road of work ahead, but i did finally find out what motor is in it (1974 351w) so that will help me find stuff for the motor. Im also looking into getting a Painless wire harness for it. finding the interior and trim pieces seems to be the hard part hahaha

Looks like you got a good car to start a project with. One thing you may want to check, if your pulley system is from a late 70's, double check to see of your water pump is turning in the correct direction. Judging from your pictures, you will need a normal rotation water pump. Not sure form the pix if your pump is a normal rotation or reverse roation.

Re: My 1965 Ford Galaxie 500

It kinda sounds like you like the car but you are unsure about it. Let me tell you... I have a 65 Galaxie that is a 4 door and these cars are exceptional in that they are rare and they are easy to work on. I can guarantee that you can go to many car shows and you wont find many. they are appealing to collectors and if you are unsure sell it to me... I just purchased a 351 cleveland for it and I am about to have it rebuilt. I checked the engine code and it turns out that its a cobra jet. i will try to upload some pics so you can see it. Try looking on ebay for parts. I have had much luck there. you can always look on good old Craigslist also.
good luck !!

Re: My 1965 Ford Galaxie 500

I expect the paint job cost $1500 so you got everything else for $500. Good deal. 65 Gals are the best.

Looking at that coil setup, reminds me of a 351M I had once... sure it's a W? That headliner looks just like mine, unfortunately - somebody was unwilling to take out the back window and tuck it in properly.

Now for the dash, think about grinding down the stick-up parts and buying a 65 dash cap set for $150 or so, IMO they don't look half bad, especially if you get it upholstered.

I hope you are looking forward to designing your own interior. It's fun!
